Murchison Middle School opened its doors as Murchison Junior High School in September 1967 serving students in grades 7, 8, and 9. The school is named for E.A. Murchison, an educational leader who devoted his life to serving youth. He was a member of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees for 24 years, from 1919-1943, including six years as Vice President and 17 years as President of the Board. This is the longest tenure of school board service in district’s history. The initial school unit was planned to accommodate approximately 800 students with 39 teaching stations.
In the fall of 1973, the 9th grade was moved to the high school. The 6th grade was added in 1987 and the school was renamed Murchison Middle School. In the spring of 2001, Murchison Middle School was named an International Baccalaureate World School with the authorization of its Middle Years Progam. The new capacity was increased to 1100 with additional portable units in following years. Murchison’s school colors are orange and gold. The mascot is a matador. The school moto is “Inspiration Within, Exellence Throughout.”

Murchison Mittelschule öffnete seine Türen als Murchison Junior High School im September 1967 für Schüler der Klassen 7, 8 und 9 . Die Schule ist nach E.A. Murchison benannt, ein Bildungs-Experte, der sein Leben dem Dienst Jugend gewidmet hat. Von 1919 bis 1943 war er ein Mitglied des Austin ISD Kuratoriums für 24 Jahre, davon sechs Jahre als Vizepräsident und 17 Jahre als Präsident des Verwaltungsrates. Dies ist die längste Amtszeit an einer Schule in der Geschichte des Verwaltungsbezirks . Die anfängliche Schuleinheit war so geplant, dass rund 800 Schüler mit 39 Unterrichtsstationen untergeracht werden konnten. Im Herbst 1973 wurde die 9. Klasse an der High School eingeführt. Die 6. Klasse wurde im Jahr 1987 eingeführt und die Schule wurde in Murchison Mittelschule umbenannt.
Im Frühjahr 2001 wurde die Murchison Mittelschule eine “International Baccalaureate World School” mit Genehmigung des Middle Years Progamm. Die neue Kapazität mit nun 1100 Schülern hat in den folgenden Jahren stark zugenommen. Die Murchison Schulfarben sind Orange und Gold, das Maskottchen ist ein Matador, das Schul-Motto ist “Inspiration Within, Exellence throughout. ”
