Nach dem Festakt zur feierlichen Namensgebung des Fritz Wachsner Saals wurde zu seinen Ehren auch ein sog. Stolperstein in den Boden vor unserer Schule eingelassen. Wir waren dabei und haben einen kleinen Bericht über die Verlegung erstellt. Es war ein besonderer Moment, der auch für seine anwesende Enkelin Marianne Meyerhoff und ihren Ehemann eine große Bedeutung hatte.
After the ceremony to the naming of the Fritz Wachsner Hall in his honor, a so-called Stumbling block with his name and dates of his school career has been positioned in the street in front of our school building. We were there and have created a small report. It was a very special moment also for the grand daughter of Fritz Wachsner, Mrs. Marianne Meyerhoff and her husband.
Hintergrundinformationen zur Stolperstein- Initiative
Die Stolpersteine sind ein Projekt von Gunter Demnig, das die Erinnerung der Vertreibung und Vernichtung, zum Beispiel der Juden, im Nationalsozialismus lebendig hält. Im Mai 1996 wurden die ersten 50 Stolpersteine in Berlin verlegt.
Inzwischen gibt es in Berlin über 5.000 Stolpersteine. Sie sind dafür da, dass man dort an die Menschen denkt, wo Sie früher gelebt haben, bevor sie den Nazis zum Opfer gefallen sind. Wir sollen dort im Vorbeigehen mit unseren Gedanken „stolpern“.
In der Erich Weinert Str. 132 gibt es schon einen Stolperstein für Wilhelm Woitschaitzki und am 27.11.2014 wurde vor unserer Schule der Stolperstein für Fritz Wachsner verlegt.
Der Künstler Gunter Demnig erinnert an die Opfer der NS-Zeit, indem er vor ihrem letzten selbstgewählten Wohnort Gedenktafeln aus Messing ins Trottoir einlässt. Inzwischen liegen STOLPERSTEINE in bereits über 610 Orten Deutschlands und in mehreren Ländern Europas.
‘Ein Mensch ist erst vergessen, wenn sein Name vergessen ist’, zitiert Gunter Demnig den Talmud. Mit den Steinen vor den Häusern wird die Erinnerung an die Menschen lebendig, die einst hier wohnten. Auf den Steinen steht geschrieben: HIER WOHNTE oder wie bei unserem Stein von Fritz Wachsner: HIER LEHRTE… Ein Stein. Ein Name. Ein Mensch.
Für 120 Euro kann jede interessierte Person eine Patenschaft für die Herstellung und Verlegung eines STOLPERSTEINS übernehmen.
Background information to the Stolperstein-Initiative
The stumbling blocks are a project of Gunter Demnig that keeps the memory of expulsion and extermination of victims such as the jewish people under the Nazis regime. In May 1996, the first 50 stumbling blocks were moved to Berlin. There are now over 5,000 stumbling blocks in Berlin. They are there to make you think of the people who used to live there before they have fallen victim of the Nazis. We are there to “stumble” on the fly with our thoughts. In the Erich Weinert Str. 132 there is already a stumbling block for Wilhelm Woitschaitzki and on 11/27/2014 the stumbling block for Fritz Wachsner was layer on the street just outside of our school building.
The artist Gunter Demnig remembers the victims of National Socialism by installing commemorative brass plaques in the pavement in front of their last address of choice. There are now STOLPERSTEINE (lit. “stumbling stones or blocks”) in over 610 places in Germany as well as in Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Norway or the Ukraine.
Gunter Demnig cites the Talmud saying that “a person is only forgotten when his or her name is forgotten”. The Stolpersteine in front of the buildings bring back to memory the people who once lived here. Each “stone” begins with HERE LIVED… or in our case, the stone for Fritz Wachsner: HERE TAUGHT… One “stone”. One name. One person.
For 120 euros, any interested person can sponsor a stone, its manufacture and its installation.
